Evaluation Questions - Victoria

Here is a powerpoint of question two; How effective is the combination of your main products and ancillary texts?

Question 3; What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Q3 Evalutation

Question 4; How did you use Media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

From research and planning, to filming and editing; modern and advanced technology has been used to achieve top results in making our music video.

The most important piece of technology which we used all the way through creating our product is the Apple iMac. We used this computer to do our research and planning, to download and upload media products and to edit and finalize our music video along side creating our ancillary tasks.

Using Apple iMac computers enabled us to use the advanced technology software such as Photoshop, InDesign and Final Cut. All of which are used professionally to create media products to the highest of quality.
Each of the programs were challenging and a lot of time and patience were needed in order to get things done quickly and to an acceptable standard. After having used Adobe Photoshop and InDesign as part of my coursework for last year's project, I had a head start, as I remembered a lot of the special effects and techniques. However, Final Cut was new to me this year, and it took some time to figure things out and to get used to using it. In my opinion, it took the most patience as it involved a lot of precision and correction. Firstly, we used Photoshop to edit the photos eg. when we changed the brightness and contrast to make our artist look more flawless. We also used Photoshop to cut out our artist from the greenscreen background, so when imported onto InDesign there wasn't a background, this made it easier to manipulate the design of the album artwork and advert. InDesign was the programme used to create the album artworks and adverts. We could use multipule effects on InDesign to create something original and to our own taste. Borders, colourful backgrounds, text, and colour blocks were created and InDesign enables us to do different things with our pictures
for example we was able to duplicate them, make them lighter or darker, or more transparent. All these effects makes the final product more professional and interesting.

Whilst doing our research and planning, we used the search engine; Google on the Apple web browser Safari. It's fast, efficient and accurate. We used Google almost every day, it allowed us to research other pop artists, their products and most popular genres and download images for our blog.

Other websites like Youtube and Slideshare were used several times. We used youtube to research other pop music videos, as well as to publish our own video and audience feedback video on to so that a wider range of audience can view it. We used Slideshare to upload any Powerpoint documents so it can be embedded onto our blog.

And finally, the most used website is Blogger. Through out our research and planning stages, we had to update everything we felt was an inspiration for us. And once we started the production stage, we had to blog frequently in order to show our progress and any changes made. Blogger is easy to use, and it's a great idea for people who want to share ideas with others online. I feel we have spent a lot of time and effort on our blog, as it shows we have posted 69 posts, and counting. Blogger is a fun way of interacting on line, you can personalise your page and view other people's progress.

We used Microsoft Office to do any documents such as, Word, Powerpoint or Edexel for any graphs and charts. These programs came in use to use with any research that was made, or in the process or planning and assessing. The computers were equipped with the latest editions of these programs, which made word processing and presentations easier to use and more professional.

We used a HD recording camera for recording our video. The high definition camera enabled us to capture a good quality motion picture, which made our music video more professional looking. The camera was placed on a tripod to ensure there wouldn't be any jolts or any other camera movement while in the process of recording. The camera let us stop and start the recording while we adjusted the tripod to different heights to add a range of shots.
A 12 mega pixel camera was used when capturing our artist for the ancillary tasks. The good quality camera provided us with high resolution pictures, which made them look more professional and easy to edit when using Photoshop and InDesign.
After plenty of research we decided to do all our shots in the studio, a green screen was used and professional lights were used to add a professional effect, while making our artist look more flawless.

On one of our shots, we flickered the lights on and off to create a nightclub effect. This added a different edge to the video as it separates it from the other shots.
After recording our video and taking pictures of our artist, we uploaded them onto the iMac computers using a firewire. It was quick and easy, and once our products were on the computer we could access them on the editing programs without any trouble.
The most challenging part of our project was the editing of the music video. After uploading the song and the shots onto Final Cut we had to match them up to fit the lip-syncing. And after mastering that, we had to pick and choose a variety of shots, most of them 3 seconds long or less so that our video wouldn't be too repetitive and boring. Once we finished filling in blank spaces and matching it up to the beat of the song we started to edit and colour correct all the shots. This is the part I found most fun, as it was interesting and enabled us to play around with the different effects. We used multipule overlapping images in Final Cut so the design is varied and original which will make it appear more professional and different from other music videos.
Although Final Cut was very time consuming and took a lot of patience when rendering and matching the music to the video it was fun to experiment with the different effects that were available, as well as the different pacing techniques which allowed us to either speed up or slowdown the pacing to match the beat of the music. At first it was a little challenging to get used to cutting and importing clips onto the timeline, however, after a couple of days of using it, it became easier and made more sense of what to do and how. Sometimes, when things went wrong or when we was experimenting it allowed us to discover new skills and techniques. We learnt how to do a split screen, or make different clips appear in a certain order.

Backgrounds were also made using Photoshop, then uploaded onto Final Cut.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with the outcome of our media products. The Music Video took the most time, and was the most challenging, but after seeing the end product it made it all worth it. The ancillary products have also been produced using the same programs, we linked them with the music video to create a relationship between them and to reinforce the brand image of our artist. All our media products are bright, happy and energetic. It's shown through the colours used and the contrast of the pictures. I enjoyed creating this project, this year working in a group as it allowed us to explore and expand knowledge and ideas. Although, time was against us and obstacles that stopped us doing some of the things we wanted to do, we eventually finished it all, leaving us content with what we have achieved.
