One idea we have is to make our whole video stuidio-based. We are unsure whether to shoot on location at the moment but just in case I have looked at some studio-based videos to see how they have made them interesting.
My first example is: Beyonce - Single Ladies.
This video is all shot in a white studio possibly infront of a green screen. Like our video, there is just the artist (Beyonce) and two dancers. They have made it interesting using the lighting, color, and camera shots and angles. The lighting ranges from high key to low key constantly changing which creates excitment and is entertaining for the audience. It is also all shot in black and white which gives it a difference and also helps add to the breaking of the rules of typical music videos as it is an upbeat song so you would expect a bright and colorful video. Personally I feel the cinematography is what gives the video the entertainment value it holds. One of the main shots used is a tracking shot which circles Beyonce and her dancers. Other main shots include medium shots, long shots and extreme long shots and also zoom shots which zoom in and out throughout the video. These all combine with fast paced editing to create an entertaining, interesting and a video that makes you want to watch it again. For our video we will take all these aspects into cosideration to provide the same effect.
A second example of a studio-based video is Labrinth ft Tinie Tempah - Earthquake
The elements that make this video interesting is the cinematography and clever use of the green screen. The green screen has been used around the whole room so Labrinth is surrounded by moving images which constantly change keeping the audience entertained. What makes it so mind blowing is the vastness of the studio. This is emphasised through high angle and zoom shots revealing the whole studio. Another shot which makes the studio look bigger is the extreme long shots used making Labrinth look smaller. A tilt shot is used at the beginning to establish him and fast paced editing is used to match the quick beat and rythm in the song. We have decided to use a lot of the green screen in our video, and will hopefully try and take some tips from this example, as it has been successful for Labrinth.
